Penske Logistics Awarded Merck's 2006 Sector Operational Award

READING, Pa., March 26, 2007 - Today, Penske Logistics announced that it is the recipient of Merck & Co., Inc.'s 2006 Sector Operational Award, recognizing its ability to drive cost reductions by optimizing Merck's European regular ground transportation.

"It is an honor to be recognized as one of Merck's most valued suppliers," said Erik van Egmond, Managing Director, Penske Logistics Europe. "We look forward to strengthening our successful business relationship and continuing to play an integral role in helping the company drive efficiencies in its supply chain operations."

Penske was challenged by Merck in 2000 to help optimize the company's European ground transport infrastructure and help drive continuous cost reductions. Penske is currently managing the regular ground transport of packed bulk tablets and finished products across Europe.

The Sector Operational Award was established to support Merck's objective of developing strategic partnerships with critical providers, and began as a global program in 2005. Winners are selected from each of Merck's primary supply sectors and seven additional outstanding contribution award categories. Decisions on supplier performance are based on scorecard grades, specific breakthroughs in multiple key business requirement categories and qualitative assessments. This year, Merck honored 12 suppliers for their excellence throughout 2006.
