Penske Logistics sponsors and contributes to the annual Third-Party Logistics Study: The State of Logistics Outsourcing. In conjunction with Capgemini Consulting, Dr. John Langley, a Penn State University supply chain professor, initiates this international study to capture and measure the supply chain industry. Each year the forward-looking document centers on timely supply chain topics.
For the 2017 edition and in the first video below, Tom McKenna, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology at Penske Logistics, offers his thoughts on the use of big data and big analytics in logistics. In the second video, Langley highlights portions of the study.
The videos were filmed at the 2016 Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) annual conference in Kissimmee, Florida. Today's rapid pace of change is adding complexity to the roles of shippers and their logistics providers. As a result, researchers for this year's report found that many 3PLs have evolved from tactical service providers to collaborative partners that take on greater accountability and control. Providers have also increased their technology expectations, and 3PLs are responding with increased capabilities.
