What Is a Warehouse Management System (WMS)?

Understand how a Warehouse Management System fits into the supply chain

Warehouse management system (WMS) refers to the system used to track a product from initial receipt to the final pick including the individual SKU. With a WMS, products can be tracked from a specific spot in a warehouse to the shipping location and arrival time, allowing for a quick response in the event of a recall or spike in demand. A WMS also allows for visibility into the warehouse and, when paired with a transportation management system and/or a yard management system, provides an even more accurate and efficient view of operations.
