What Is Drayage?

Understand how Drayage fits into the supply chain

Drayage refers to the movement or transport of large containers of freight over short distances, often at a shipping port. Drayage is a critical step in the pick-up or delivery of ocean containers for intermodal freight carriage. One of the benefits of drayage is its ability to help fill in the gaps of a longer overall move by bridging short distances between ports, terminals and warehouses. Also, because it is a shorter distance of transport, it is often cheaper.
