On-hand balance refers to the actual quantity of a product currently in inventory. Inventory is expensive and ties up capital while costing money to store, so many companies are working to reduce their inventory by embracing a flow-through model where products are never at rest, however supply chain disruptions have created a need to maintain a higher inventory level, just-in-case.
